Portman Source will soon be closing doors, y’all.

Running a(nother) Natalie Portman site for more than 1.5 years has been a pleasure, but unfortunately Natalie’s most recent projects in terms of film haven’t inspired a great deal of additional, or even continued, interest in her in me, personally, and I need to move on to projects of greater interest and activity, such as my websites for Tricia Helfer and Chloë Sevigny.

Furthermore, I’ve begun to increasingly feel the site is not going in the direction I’d like, mainly due to time and energy constraints. My original intention was to make Portman Source a fully fledged fan site with rich and informative content, particularly given the huge(!) amount of raw material available to me. Once that proved a task too enormous, I was willing to settle for a newsblog until another development opportunity presented itself, but even as a newsblog I feel Portman Source, as it is now, is inadequate, despite the positive feedback I’ve received. As I see no additional free time for me to develop the site in the near (or distant) future, closing has become the right decision for me.

I still have the greatest respect for Natalie as an actress and philanthropist; her work for FINCA particularly commands respect. A huge thank you to everyone who’s been supportive of this project from the beginning. You know who you are.

Portman Source and its content is not for sale and content will not be donated to any other Natalie Portman website. Please do not ask. Thank you.

Apologies for the recent delay in updates. While there hasn’t been much activity with Natalie of late, we also are and will be busy with other projects throughout the Spring, and thus we will only be posting updates whenever there are big news or public appearances to report on, until further notice. Sorry, ya’ll — some things just have to take higher priority!

Onto today’s update, however. Yesterday, March 14 2009, Natalie Portman was spotted at the REDCAT 5th Anniversary Gala in Los Angeles, CA, of which the first three medium-res photos have been added to the gallery. As always, more photos will be added as they are found. Enjoy!

For starters, I’d like to apologize for the long delay in updates. The fact of the matter is, there has been absolutely zilch going on with Natalie of late, while I have been largely offline due to other commitments. Personally, I had hoped Barack Obama’s inauguration would’ve gotten Natalie on her feet on a larger scale, but there’s been very little coverage on her public doings of late, I’m afraid.

Furthermore, we seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties with the gallery right now; some of you will notice the latest uploaded screen captures are not showing in full-res. As soon as the problem is resolved regular updates will resume, however this might take a while. Please be patient! Thank you.

Hooray for the return of regular updates! Although I have little time to spare at the moment, a quick heads-up to one and all that unlogged gallery access and user registration is once again available. I.e. unregistered users are now once again able to access most of the gallery, and register a username at need.

However, there’s quite a bit of Natalie news I confess have not had the time or energy to cover of late. Expect more updates in coming days! Topics include Love and Other Impossible Pursuits and a fake perfume ad à la Francesco Vezzoli. Stay tuned!

Attention everyone! The holidays are upon us once again, and I will be out of the country 16-25.12.2008. In this period, the site will unfortunately go largely, if not wholly, without updates and I will be unable to read or or respond to any emails sent to me in or shortly before this time. Sorry, guys!

Furthermore, for a number of practical reasons, unregistered photo gallery access will be closed throughout the aforementioned time period. This means that only already registered and logged in members will be able to view the contents of the gallery during my absence. Please do not email me with questions regarding gallery user registration and/or access in this time as such emails will not be responded to. Access and user registration will be reopened at the earliest available time. Thanks for your patience, guys!

Finally, happy holidays, y’all!

Some have been wondering what’s in store for Portman Source in the future and if a full version of the site will ever be launched, and I think I have finally made a decision of sorts on the matter. At present, I have no interest in developing the site into a full Natalie Portman fan site, mainly for practical reasons; I simply have too much of Natalie raw material to cover at this time. This does not mean Portman Source will close or remain in its current state forever, indeed not. I do plan on launching a full site some time, but it will not be soon.

Thus, for now, until I decide it is time for a change, Portman Source will remain a news and photoblog on Natalie Portman. We’ll continue to update the site with news on the latest doings and media of Natalie, and when I feel the time is ripe, a quiet building process will begin behind the scenes. Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise you with a full site some time!

I’ve recently noticed that photos originating from Portman Source are being reposted at other websites without the slightest of mention of the site. While a little reposting is fine by me (after all, the site is here to share, no?), I do find it increasingly disheartening to see hoards of material — literally hundreds of photos — from our imagery being continuously spread to or at other sources, material I work hard to obtain exclusively for Portman Source. In view of the fact that, unlike many other fan sites today, I leave the majority of photos untagged and do not nitpick about the occasional reposts, I don’t see why allowing Portman Source a taste of appreciation for work well done should be so much to ask.

Thus, I kindly ask you to please credit Portman Source for reposted material, and ask you not to redistribute our original scans or screen captures to or at other websites, whether they be dedicated to Natalie or not. Thank you.
