Running a(nother) Natalie Portman site for more than 1.5 years has been a pleasure, but unfortunately Natalie’s most recent projects in terms of film haven’t inspired a great deal of additional, or even continued, interest in her in me, personally, and I need to move on to projects of greater interest and activity, such as my websites for Tricia Helfer and Chloë Sevigny.

Furthermore, I’ve begun to increasingly feel the site is not going in the direction I’d like, mainly due to time and energy constraints. My original intention was to make Portman Source a fully fledged fan site with rich and informative content, particularly given the huge(!) amount of raw material available to me. Once that proved a task too enormous, I was willing to settle for a newsblog until another development opportunity presented itself, but even as a newsblog I feel Portman Source, as it is now, is inadequate, despite the positive feedback I’ve received. As I see no additional free time for me to develop the site in the near (or distant) future, closing has become the right decision for me.

I still have the greatest respect for Natalie as an actress and philanthropist; her work for FINCA particularly commands respect. A huge thank you to everyone who’s been supportive of this project from the beginning. You know who you are.

Paramount Pictures has attached Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman to star in a film based on the new Leanne Shapton book Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry. The book was just published by Farrar Straus & Giroux. Paramount won an auction for the book rights Tuesday night, with Pitt’s Plan B producing with Portman’s Handsomecharlie Films banner. Portman brought the book to Pitt, whose company is Par-based.

The book takes the form of Sotheby’s-like estate auction catalog, with 325 entries and photographs depicting items that reveal the private moments and the rise and fall of a four-year relationship between the fictitious couple Hal Morris (a 40ish photographer) and Lenore Doolan, (a New York Times food columnist in her late 20s). The project will be developed as a romantic comedy, with Pitt to play Morris, and Portman to play Doolan.

Onto today’s update, however. Yesterday, March 14 2009, Natalie Portman was spotted at the REDCAT 5th Anniversary Gala in Los Angeles, CA, of which the first three medium-res photos have been added to the gallery. As always, more photos will be added as they are found. Enjoy!

We have a huge media update on Natalie Portman’s 81st Annual Academy Awards-appearance of February 22 2009. Natalie appeared on the red carpet as well as presented the award for Best Cinematography with actor-comedian Ben Stiller to Anthony Dod Mantle for Slumdog Millionaire, the big winner of the night with an impressive eight Oscar wins.

Kicking things off with photos, the gallery has been updated with hundreds of site-exclusive medium- and hi-res photos of Natalie’s Academy Awards- and Vanity Fair Oscar Party-appearances, bringing the current total count up to roughly 350 photos. Natalie showed up at the event in a stunning purple strapless Rodarte gown and updo, and was without a doubt the best dressed of the night. As always, more photos will be added as they are found!

Video clip-wise, we have a YouTube video of Natalie and Ben Stiller’s hilarious Best Cinematography-presentation, in which Stiller brilliantly spoofed the recent awkward Late Show with David Letterman-appearance of actor Joaquin Phoenix, much to the delight of the audience. If you haven’t seen Phoenix’s Letterman-appearance, you will fail to appreciate most of what’s happening here, however clearly most of Hollywood has. Check it out!

Thank heavens for new appearances! Yesterday, February 13 2009, Natalie Portman attended the Second Clinton Global Initiative Opening Plenary Session, titled “Making a Difference on Campus: A Call to Action” at the University of Texas in Austin, TX.
