More of Natalie at the ongoing 65th Venice Film Festival in Italy! I’ve just uploaded the first 25 medium- and hi-res photos of a casual and nothing short of adorable Natalie arriving earlier this evening at the festival premiere of her directorial debut, the romantic comedy short Eve, starring Lauren Bacall, Olivia Thirlby, Ben Gazzara and Rich Delia. The short film is reportedly getting good reviews so far, how awesome! More photos coming up.

Here’s a brief synopsis for Eve, courtesy of Gossip Girls:

As for Eve, the short film concerns “a young woman named Kate, who visits her grandma Lola for dinner, and is surprised to find her grandma is on a date with a man named Joe.”

Update: Another 21 hi-res photos have been added to the gallery!

Good news, everyone! I think Natalie’s appearance at the 65th Annual Venice Film Festival is as good as confirmed, as she reportedly arrived earlier today in Venice, Italy. Photographs of her arrival have surfaced online, however seeing as she seemed rather uncomfortable being photographed by the paparazzis, we will not be posting them here.

Natalie’s directorial debut Eve, a comedy short, will premiere at the festival tomorrow, September 1 at 9 PM local time. We’ll of course do our best to cover it! Stay tuned.

According to FilmFestivals.com, Natalie will be rewarded with the first ever Movie for Humanity Award at the upcoming 65th Venice Film Festival for her commitment to social, humanitarian and environmental causes. From FilmFestivals.com:

From the agreement of S. Pellegrino and the 65. Venice Film Festival, the project of the first ever award dedicated to social commitment has been established. It is a sort of “Nobel Prize” assigned to movie artists who devote themselves to humanitarian causes. The first edition of “Movie For Humanity Award” will be assigned to Natalie Portman, Sunday, August 31st during Kinéo Italian Movie Award (the yearly Audience Award) Night at the Hotel Des Bains, Visconti Hall. Natalie will receive a beautiful trophy and a Check of §50.000,00. She will be devolving the donation to TACARE Girls’ Scholarship Program.

The award, which was inspired by Italian cinema traditional sensitivity towards social and political issues and by the serious involvement of artists all over the world, aspires to provide concrete support to their engagement in promoting human rights, peace and protect the environment, as well as for showing their compassion towards the plight of millions of children raised in poverty as well as the growing poverty in Third World countries, for speaking out about all those global plagues which cry for a decisive voluntary effort.

Keep your eyes peeled for photos. Congratulations to Natalie for the well-deserved award!

Rumor has it that Natalie might be starring in another Luc Besson film in the future. According to ChinaDaily.com, Natalie and actress-model Milla Jovovich are set to star in an as-of-yet untitled Besson-directed produced Korean-French sci-fi thriller. Keep in mind this is only a rumor, though, until an official source confirms or negates it. From ChinaDaily.com:

South Korean actor Dong-Kun Jang will act in the new thriller by French director Luc Besson, the Information Times reported on Wednesday. International stars Natalie Portman and Milla Jovovich are also expected to star in the film.

Set in present-day New York, the film will chronicle subplots triggered by serial killings. Based on an award-winning novel by a South Korean college professor, the Korean-French film, yet to be titled, will start filming in early 2009.

The new film would mark Natalie’s second collaboration with director Besson — she previously appeared in a starring role in his film The Professional (1994). Many thanks to our friends at Adoring Natalie Portman for the heads-up!
